An insolvency handled with reason and understanding by everyone involved does not have to mean the ultimate end of a company and thus the loss of all jobs. Quite to the contrary: The story of Schlote Saar proves there is another way and that new perspectives give cause for confidence.
The Ludwigsberg industrial site has a long history of industry.
It was established by the company Ehrhard und Sehmer in 1876. Ehrhard und Sehmer manufactured steam and gas engines, piston compressors, rotary pumps, roller mill equipment and more.
The site was taken over by the company KSB for the production of various types of compressors and pumps in 1972.
Starting in 1981, the site operated under the name Atlas Copco GmbH, producing compressors to generate compressed air and for use in the chemicals industry.
Ernst Haaf took the company’s fate in hand with the founding of Sawema Ernst Haaf GmbH in 1987. This is when production for the automobile industry and its suppliers began. Cylinder heads, brake components, pump casings, transmission housings and more were manufactured.
The company IWESA Gesellschaft für qualifizierten Maschinenbau mbH commenced production in 1993. Among other things, it produced cylinder heads, brake components, pump casings, transmission housings and motor parts.
The insolvent IWESA GmbH was taken over in August 1999 and renamed IWESA Präzisionstechnik GmbH. In early 2009, the company encountered financial difficulties due to the global financial crisis. Insolvency proceedings began on 1 April 2009.
The company was taken over by the Schlote Group on 1 November 2011 and became Schlote Saar GmbH. Schlote Saar GmbH supplies the automobile and commercial vehicle supplier industry from the production facility in Saarbrücken.
